How long has it been since you let God have you, have your time?How long since you gave him a portion of uninterrupted time listening for His voice?
Jesus made a deliberate effort to spend time with God. Spend much time reading about the listening life of Jesus and a distinct pattern emerges. He spent regular time with God. Praying and listening.
Mark 1:35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.
Luke 5:16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.
Matt 14:23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone,
Let me ask the obvious. If Jesus the Son of God, the sinless Savior of humankind, thought it worthwhile to clear his calendar to pray, wouldn’t we be wise to do the same?
Jesus didn’t have a set time or place, we have that luxury. Jesus found rural, out of the way places with no distractions. He found times that worked and went in the evenings and mornings.
We can choose A regular time and place. Select it and claim it for God.
It doesn’t matter the length of time. Value Quality over Length. It should last long enough for God to say what he wants.
Bring your bible to this time. Before reading the bible, pray. Don’t be stuck going to your next scheduled passage, pray for God to show you the passage he has for you or use the passage you have chosen. Read it prayerfully.
A listening heart. Spend time listening until you receive from God and then apply it. It’s one thing to not know. It’s another to know and not learn. “what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, do” Phil 4:9
He has things to say to you. He’s just speaking in a still small voice.

Thanks for taking the time to write this. I haven't had much of a relationship with God recently. You would think being lonely and somewhat depressed would draw me closer to him but really it has just made me lazy. Some days I really don't want to do ANYTHING. I need to get back to a life of prayer, but I feel like I don't know where to start. You make it sound and look so easy...

Andi, trust me, it's not that easy! I struggle all the time, but it's something good to ponder and to see on paper.. or in this case on the computer.. a recent devotional shared was how we lose God when we think he's right there, but we're not seeking Him... maybe I'll put some thoughts together on that and share it soon!
