Knocking

I am stealing some thoughts from an awesome speaker and evangelist here in Spain.
a gorgeous wednesday morning- not that long ago- i woke up and trust me i was not expecting to knock on a storehouse full of treasures.
the first passage took us to exodus. it seemed we kept going over the same stories (from the Old Testament), or similar anyway, so I was prepared for the repetitive. (don’t get me wrong i love wednesdays and i love devotions, but it wasn’t what I was expecting)
So here we go!
exodus 24:15-16 "and moses went up into the mount and a cloud covered the mount. and the glory of the LORD abode on mount sinai and the cloud covered it six days: and on the seventh day he called out to moses out of the midst of the cloud."
Let's get this straight for a second. SEVEN DAYS!!!!!!!
I do not have patience. Especially 7 days worth. But alas, Moses waited for 6 days and finally God spoke.

This next part is going to get a little interesting.
matthew 6:6 "but when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in secret. then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you."
away by yourself.
shut the door.
you're gonna be there awhile.
this isn't just a in-and-out. this is SEVEN DAYS!!
In secret. you're not going to find Him right away. whatever you went in for is not a popcorn prayer. He's not planning to pop out for a short little prayer.
He wants you to come in.
He wants you to stay awhile.
He wants you to seek Him.
He wants you to find Him.

You are knocking at God's door. imagine that there is a storehouse full of things that God wants to give you and all those things are right on the other side of that door. Right on the other side of the door!!!! AND FOR YOU!!!!
ok, keep that in mind.
luke 11:5-10 "Suppose one of you has a friend, and he goes to him at midnight and says, 'Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, because a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have nothing to set before him.'
"Then the one inside answers, 'Don't bother me. The door is already locked, and my children are with me in bed. I can't get up and give you anything.' I tell you, though he will not get up and give him the bread because he is his friend, yet because of the man's boldness he will get up and give him as much as he needs.
"So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

First. is the fact that you are asking for your friend. not for yourself, not that it's bad to ask for yourself. but there's something to be said for praying for someone else.
Second. is your persistence. how important is this to you? how soon will you give up? how soon will you try it your way? did you try your way first?!?
Third. God may be on the other side saying "don't bother me" but really he is cheering. "Knock again! Don't leave! Show me you are serious!"
Fourth. Boldness. because of our boldness, to keep knocking, to keep asking, God will get up and answer the door. "the door will be opened."
When we walk through the door, we see "bread" of every kind (sweet, soft, round, long, etc.). God smiles at us and asks "what would you like?"
you have come knocking- wanting an answer to a prayer, to a need - maybe for you, maybe for a friend, maybe for your church. Whatever the case, He is standing in his storehouse and wants us to "Ask and it will be given to you".

when you see all of what God wants for you. it silences. everything waiting in a storehouse. it's all for you. and He wants to give it. all He wants is for you to want in. don't just pop in, come in and stay awhile- SEVEN DAYS!!!! that's what He wants.
